Chiefs 21 vs 28 Bills summary, score, stats, and highlights | NFL Week 9

It was another classic between the Bills and the Chiefs in a game that went down to the wire as we have grown so accustomed to over the years. Mahomes had a last gasp chance to tie the game up but the Bills defense batted the Hail Mary down and the Bills improved to 5-2 while the Chiefs dropped to 5-3. Could we see these two teams playing at some point in January? Recent history would certainly suggest that it's a great possibility. 

The Bills looked to close the game out with a 50 yard field goal but Matt Prater doinked it off the goal post giving the Chiefs a chance with 22 seconds to go. 

On another fourth down, it was Kareem Hunt punching the ball into the end zone and the Chiefs would cut the lead to 7 with a two point conversion from Mahomes to Travis Kelce. 

The Bills were up two scores but they knew the Chiefs would come clawing back. On a 4th and forever, Mahomes hit Rashee Rice for a huge first down to keep KC's alive. 

It was Allen again, taking it into the end zone for his second rushing TD of the night. He has just 19. yards on 6 carries, but he did have a nearly perfect day throwing. He went 23/26 for 273 yards and the TD in the first half. 

The Bills defense stopped the Chiefs on 4th down, and that set them up with great field position and Josh Allen got into the end zone with a QB sneak after the 2:00 minute warning to put BUF up 21-10. 

The Bills rushing attack controlled the game from start to finish. James Cook had 114 yards and 27 yards, but it was Ty Johnson getting into the end zone to put the Bills up 14-10 late in the first half. 

KC went three and out on their first possession, but the Chiefs defense stopped BUF on a 4th down and Patrick Mahomes got great field position for their opening scoring drive. It was Rashee Rice lining up in the shotgun and taking it into the end zone for a three yard TD run. 

The Buffalo Bills hosted the Kansas City Chiefs in a Sunday afternoon clash of titans from Orchard Park. It was another game that went down to the wire, and Josh Allen had another MVP type game in one of the biggest games of the NFL's regular season. 

The Bills came out and moved the ball slowly but effectively down the field. Their opening drive took 7:00 off the clock and Allen's pass to Dalton Kincaid was the the 11th play of the drive.

Mahomes felt the pressure and launched one up the field for Worthy but that pass is picked off by Hairston!!

KC took a big chance going for it on 4th and long, but Mahomes kept the drive alive with a big gain for Rice. The game was as good as over if the Chiefs don't get this first down.

Allen was originally ruled short of the end zone but he got over the goal line to finish off a nearly perfect first half. Allen was 15/17 for 176 yards and one TD pass. 

Johnson gave the Bills the lead back with a run to the left side and BUF have lead since then. The drive was set up by a big catch and run from Kincaid. Kincaid has 75 yards and a TD wile Knox has 30 on one catch. 

Cook has 64 yards on 11 carries while Johnson has 8 yards and this TD. 

The Chiefs went three and out on their first possession, but the defense held BUF on a 4th down conversion attempt that gave KC great field position and Rashee Rice punched it in from the 3 yard line. 

Mahomes has 123 yards, and the run game as 56, but they have been chasing BUF for most of the night. 

The Bills took the first drive down the field on an 11 play, 7 minute drive that was completed with the a 23 yard TD pass to Dalton Kincaid.

There have been some classics between these two teams, but no game was more memorable than the 2022 playoff game between these two teams. I still think its the best game I've ever seen. Who is to say today's match up from Buffalo wont's be just as good. 

Who is the midseason MVP? 

It should come as no surprise that these two QBs have the top odds to win the MVP in the eyes of the bookmakers. Patrick Mahomes is the heavy favorite to win his third MVP as we approach the halfway of the season at +140. Josh Allen is a +350 shot at his back to back bid for MVP with second year QB. Drake Maye sitting in third above Matt Stafford and Baker Mayfield who round out the top 5. 

Romo’s hot take

There are a lot of great rivalries in the sports world, in the US and around the world. Think of the Yankees and Red Sox, Lakers and Celtics, Real Madrid and Barcelona, and the Chiefs and Bills have joined that list in the last few years. When ever they get together its must see TV, but it is the best rivalry in sports? Tony Romo seems to think so. "Well I think the expectations are the same as they basically have been, feels like for a decade. But you know, it's probably the top rivalry we have in sports. And we're so excited here at CBS, because we've been telling the story for so long," Romo said.

AFC Standings 

Taking a look at the standings in the AFC, it’s interesting to see these teams not only not at the top of the conference, but they aren’t even leading their divisions. The Chiefs trail the Chargers and the Broncos in the AFC West and the Bills are trailing the New England Patriots in the AFC East. Things might be changing in the AFC, but the teams currently above KC and Buffalo will have to hold off the two teams that have been playoff regulars and titans in the conference for what seems to be the last decade. 

Pacheco sidelined 

The pass game is back for the Chiefs, but the run game took a hit last week against the Commanders when Isiaiah Pacheco had to leave the game late in the second half after suffering a sprained MCL. That injury will keep him out at least this week, and maybe even longer although KC have a BYE after the game this afternoon. He’s not having a huge season, rushing for 329 yards and 1 TD this year but with him on the bench, it’s going to put the pressure on Kareem Hunt to have to carry the load. 

Star watch: Bills 

The reigning MVP is ready for a showdown with a two time MVP Patrick Mahomes. He didn’t have to do much in the game last week against the Panthers. His numbers aren’t staggering this year, but they really weren’t last year either. He’s got 1,560 yada with 12 TDs and 4 INTs, but the thing he did last year that was so impressive was make big plays in big moments while leading to the Bills to a great regular season. Josh Allen will alway be compared to Patrick Mahomes, but it doesn’t matter how many times he beats KC and Mahomes, he needs a Super Bowl under his belt to be in the conversation for the best QB in the league. 

Star watch: Chiefs 

It was a slow start to the Chiefs season and despite Patrick Mahomes having to do basically everything, KC lost their first two games. Then they got Xavier Worthy back, and then Rashee Rice came back from suspension and the Chiefs offense started to look like the Chiefs offense from a few years ago. All of the sudden, Patrick Mahomes is second in passing yards with 2099 yards, and is tied with Matt Stafford for the most TDs in the NFL. 

Bills last game  

The Bill came off of their BYE week needed a win after a two game slide to the Falcons and the Patriots. Coach Sean McDermott straightened his guys out during the week off and he saw his team dominate a Panthers team that was on a little roll coming into last week. The Bills stomped a Carolina side that was without starting QB Bryce Young, scoring a couple field goals on their first drive, but then they turned on the heat scoring TDs in four of their next five drives winning the game 40-9 as James Cook ran all over the Panthers for 216 yards and a couple of TDs. 

Chiefs last game 

The Chiefs hosted a banged up Washington Commanders team on Monday Night Football and were outplayed but the Commanders who had Marcus Mariota in a QB in the first half. Patrick Mahomes threw two picks, and it was 7-7 at the halftime break, but the Chiefs would respond in the second half, as Kareem Hunt caught a passing TD, his second TD of the night and Mahomes would throw another two TD passes to close the Commanders out to win their third straight game and fifth in their last six.

Hello everyone and welcome to Highmark Stadium for what promises to be another memorable matchup from Western New York. These teams have been the cream of the crop in the AFC for almost a decade, and this year is no different. Both of these teams are early season favorites to make a run to the conference championships but before that they will want to position themselves for the post season and that starts with this game here from Buffalo today. The Chiefs have had home field advantage for most of their reign over the AFC, but the Bills know that they could take a big step in stripping them from that title with a win here tonight that would put the tie breaker in their favor.
