Update:

The New York Giants have endured a rough start to the 2025 NFL season, as shown by rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart being thrust into the starting role after the team opened 0-3.

Dart, who has split his first two games as a starter, is viewed as the future of the Giants’ offense. But running back Cam Skattebo has also been turning heads early in the season with his versatility and energy.

Who is Cam Skattebo?

Skattebo played for Sacramento State and Arizona State during his college career, which spanned from 2021 to 2024. In 2022, the California native won the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year award and earned spots on both the All-American and All-Big 12 first teams in 2024.

The 23-year-old was selected 105th overall in the fourth round of the 2025 draft, signing a four-year contract with the Giants worth $5,273,040, according to Spotrac. That deal includes $1,073,040 guaranteed and a signing bonus of the same amount.

Rookie deal details

For 2025, Skattebo will earn a base salary of $840,000, the minimum for a rookie this season. His salary is set to increase to $1,005,000 in 2026, $1,120,000 in 2027, and $1,235,000 in 2028, the final year of his current deal. His average annual salary over four years comes to $1,318,260.

Early promise with room to grow

The early signs suggest Skattebo could become a valuable piece of New York’s offense. He currently ranks fifth among rookies in total yards from scrimmage (383) and is tied for third on the team in targets, a sign of growing trust between him and Dart.

Still, there’s room for improvement, as you would expect given his age and experience. Skattebo ranks 25th among all running backs in rushing yards after contact, and his recent red-zone fumble led to a Saints touchdown in a 24-16 loss.

Even so, his potential is clear, and the Giants may have found another cornerstone for their rebuild.
