The longtime assistant got his big break in Dallas this season, with fans keen to know more about the paycheck that came with it.

Brian Schottenheimer’s contract details: The Cowboys’ head coach’s salary and years left in Dallas

Brian Schottenheimer’s steady climb through the NFL coaching ranks finally landed him the top job in Dallas. After two seasons with the Cowboys – first as a consultant, then as offensive coordinator – the 52-year-old was officially named head coach in early 2025. But with the ‘star’ comes the salary, and in Schottenheimer’s case, a four-year deal that makes him a well-compensated leader, though far from the top of the NFL pay scale.
Cowboys need some magic
Schottenheimer replaced Mike McCarthy after the Cowboys limped to a 7-10 finish in 2024. Injuries gutted the roster – Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons, and others all missed time – but the team’s offensive dip under Schottenheimer’s watch as OC (from a league-leading 29.9 points per game in 2023 to 20.6 in 2024) raised a few eyebrows.

Still, Jerry Jones stayed in-house, banking on familiarity and pedigree. Brian is, after all, the son of the late Marty Schottenheimer, a coach with 200 career wins. Could that magic be in the genes?

How much is Schottenheimer getting paid?
According to reports from February, Schottenheimer’s contract is worth $4.5 million annually. It’s a solid sum, if not quite elite-tier in a league where coaches like Sean Payton and Kyle Shanahan reportedly make north of $10 million per year. But for a coach making his debut in the big chair, it’s a competitive figure.
Now, the question is whether he can deliver playoff wins, something Dallas fans have been waiting on since 1995. The Cowboys may not be throwing around top-tier money, but they’re certainly expecting top-tier results.
The Cowboys are currently 3-5-1 after Week 9 in the 2025 NFL season.
