49ers 19 @ 30 Buccaneers summary, stats, score and highlights | NFL Week 6

The Niners still had a chance, but the Bucs defense turned up the pressure on Mac Jones and came up with a couple of big sacks late on. With the game on the line, Jones got picked by Jamel Dean and the Bucs sealed the game before the Two Minute Warning for the first time all season. The Bucs move to 5-1 on the season and could be the only 5-1 team in the NFC by the end of the night depending on what the Lions do tonight against the Chiefs. 

A couple plays after the mad dash for a first down, Mayfield went deep for Tez Johnson for what would end up being the game winning score. Mayfield ended the night with 256 yards and two TDs on 17/23 passing. Ladies and gentlemen your early season MVP. 

The Niners continued to chip away at the lead with field goals, and had the Bucs facing a 3rd and long, but Baker came up with a massive scramble on 3rd and 14 to keep the drive alive. 

Baker turned it on in the second half. He is one of the favroites to win the MVP for a reason, and he delivered again with a bunch of back up receivers. He got drilled on this pass to Kameron Johnson but he hung in long enough to drop a dime for the 34 yard TD. 

The Bucs would retake the lead with Sean Tucker's TD run to put the Bucs on top and they would stay on top for the rest of the way. White had 65 yards on 17 carried and Tucker had 25 yards on 6 but it was Baker Mayfield who had the biggest run of the day. 

Disaster struck for an already banged up Niners team when Fred Warner went down with a gruesome ankle injury. He got carted off the field in an air cast, and the Niners might have just lost their team captain for the rest of the year after a devastating blow on the defensive end. 

The Niners would respond on the following drive with a Christian McCaffrey TD after Mac Jones drove his team down the field and took the lead early in the 2nd quarter. That is the only rushing TD the Niners have scored this year, and that would be the only TD the Niners scored on the day. They had to settle for four field goals as the Bucs defense held strong the rest of the way. 

The Bucs would punch in the TD two plays later with this Rachaad White TD from a couple yards out. 

It was a battle of early season giants from Tampa Bay as the one loss Bucs hosted the one loss San Francisco 49ers. Both teams have made a habit out of deciding games late in the 4th quarter, but the Bucs made sure the Niners had no late game theatrics on Sunday afternoon. 

The Bucs defense came up with some massive plays throughout the day, starting with this Kindle Vildor interception on Mac Jones early in the first quarter.

The Bucs got the ball back after a field goal from SF to cut the lead to one, and Baker took his team down the field in 1:21 and found Johnson wide open in the end zone. 

Mayfield has 133 yards on 10/15 passing as the Bucs lead 20-16 after two quarters. 

After losing the lead momentarily, the Bucs drove right down the field and retook the lead with this TD run from Sean Tucker. 

It was a grusome injury for Fred Warner who went down with a serious ankle injury. He got carted off the field in an air cast and that's a huge blow to the Niners defense who will be without him for a long time. 

The Niners would bounce back with a couple of big pass plays from Jones who has 200 yards on 13/19 passing. McCaffrey has 30 yards rushing and 25 yards receiving and this TD. 

The Bucs took advantage a couple of plays later with a rushing TD from White who ran the ball in from two yards out. 

The game got off to a rough start for the Niners, as Jones threw a pick on the first possession, but he would bounce back.

A miscommunication from the NIners leads to a big early play from the Bucs. Vildor picks off Jones and was on his way to the end zone if he didn't trip over his own feet.

When is Purdy back?

Brock Purdy is suffering from a turf toe injury that he suffered in the first week of the season. He missed Week 2, came back in Week 3 and reaggravated his injury against the Jags. There is no real timeline for his injury, but Joe Burrow who has a similar injury is out until December. Purdy has been ruled out for this game, and beyond that we will have to wait and see. 

Run CMC run

The Niners might be shifting QBs on a weekly basis but they know were their bread is buttered. Chrstian McCaffery is the work horse for this team, and maybe now more than ever. With injuries at QB, WR and TE McCaffrey is the safety valve for Mac Jones. He leads San Fran in rushing with 282 yards, and receiving with 387 yards and three TDs. He’s yet to take off in the run game, but today could be the day that he breaks loose. 

NFC Standings 

After the Eagles lost to the Giants last week for their second straight loss after a 4-0 start, they are now 4-2 which means the winner of this game will be at the top of the NFC. There are only three 4-1 teams in the NFC, the Bucs, the Niners and the Lions who play later tonight against the Chiefs. It’s still very early in the season but we could be seeing a future Super Bowl team playing on the field at Raymond James Stadium this afternoon. 

QB controversy? 

We might have a QB controversy brewing in the Bay Area. It’s a luxury to have a back up QB like Mac Jones if you are Kyle Shannahan, but if the Niners keep winning the question will be inevitable. The Niners payed Brock Purdy big bucks this offseason, so you would think he’s the QB of the future, but for the short term, if Mac keeps winning how can you put him on the bench? It’s a question for another day, but if the Niners win this one on the road get ready for the conversation about a QB competition in North Cali to ignite. 

Star watch: Niners 

The San Francisco 49ers are 4-1, but they have had injury problems all over the place. The biggest hit came early in the season when their starting QB went down with an injury and Mac Jones came in under center. The transition has been flawless for the Niners who have wona all three games that their back up has started. He’s averaging over 300 yards game and has 6 TDs with 1 INT as the Niners starter. He’s in the midst of a renaissance much like Mayfield went through and the Niners feel like if their QB1 is out their QB2 is perfectly fine leading them to victory.

It’s been a sensational comeback for Baker Mayfield who was discarded by the Cleveland Browns and the Carolina Panthers, but he got his chance in Tampa Bay and he has taken full advantage of it. He is not just a good story any more he is one of the best QBs in the league, and he’s having one of his best years ever. He had 4,500 yards and 41 TDs last year, and he’s on track to top that this year with 1,283 yards and 10 TDs with just one INT. 

Niners last game 

The Niners are coming in to this game after a mini BYE following their Thursday night match up with the LA Rams. The Niners went up 14-0 with a couple of TD passes from back up QB Mac Jones. It was a gunslingers dual from LA as both Mac and Matt Stafford threw for 340+ yards and the Rams had a chance to take the lead late in the 4th quarter but Kyren Williams fumbled on the 1 yard line, but LA would get the ball back with under a minute to go and kick a field goal to push it to OT. San Fran kicked a field goal, and LA tried to go for it on 4th and 1 but the defense made the play of the game stopping Willams on the carry.

Bucs last game 

It was maybe the game of the year as the Bucs went to Seattle in an explosive showdown packed full of points. Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold bth had 300 yard games. Mayfield had 379 yards and two TDs while Darnold went fo 341 yards and 4 TDs. After Baker tied the game up with 1:08 to go in the 4th quarter on a TD pass to Sam Shepard but the Seahawks got the ball with a chance to win the game. Darnold, who had been near perfect all game, threw a pick at the SEA 32 and that led to a 39 yard Chase McLaughlin field goal as time expired.

Hello everyone and welcome to Tampa Bay where the Bucs are back in front of their home fans after a thrill in Seattle last week. The Bucs have been the most entertaining team in the NFL through five weeks, with all of their games coming down to the wire, and Baker Mayfield has lead his team to wins in four of those games. Expect more of the same today as they host the San Francisco 49ers who have had an eventful start to the season but they have persevered though injury and put together a fantastic start of the season. Today one team improves to 5-1 while the other will be handed their second loss of the season in what could be a potential playoff preview.
