If it seems like College Gameday and Pat McAfee are almost exclusively visiting SEC universities on Saturday mornings, well, it’s because they are.

Why are there so many SEC games on College Gameday on ESPN in 2025? Finally a break in Week 10

Joseph McMahon
Born in Chicago, Joe played varsity football and baseball in Bowling Green, Ohio for BGHS and later played lacrosse at BGSU. A year abroad in Spain changed everything. As destiny would have it he ended up living in Zaragoza, running his own business, teaching Journalism at a private university then working as a SEO journalist for Diario AS.
Update:

Almost every week this season has had at least one SEC team in the College Gameday game. From Week 1 to Week 9, there was only one exception. Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and Nick Saban must have got the memo because this week 10 the crew is going to a Big 12 school, where we can enjoy a different atmosphere out west.

So far this season, seven games with SEC teams have been showcased in ESPN’s program compared to four games with teams from the Big 10 with a litte ACC and Big 12 mixed in:

This is the schedule so far in 2025:

Oct. 25Nashville (SEC at SEC)Vanderbilt 17 - Missouri 10
Nov. 1Salt Lake City (Big 12 at Big 12)Cincinnati at Utah

In Week 5 we got a break from the SEC when the guys visited Penn State when they took on Oregon, both Big 10 schools. Week 10 is another reprise from the SEC when the gang heads out to Salt Lake City for the Big 12 showdown between Cincinnati and Utah.

Surprisingly for college football fans, the university that has hosted College GameDay the most times comes from the Big 10. Ohio State sits atop the list with 26 visits to the horseshoe. Alabama comes in second place with 20 visits, then Michigan (15), LSU (14) and Florida with 13 to round out the top-five.

Appearances on College Game Day have a similar distribution:

  1. Ohio State: 67
  2. Alabama: 61
  3. Florida: 43
  4. Oklahoma: 42
  5. Georgia 42
  6. Michigan: 41
  7. Notre Dame: 40
  8. Florida State: 36
  9. LSU: 36

We’ll keep you posted as to where Pat McAfee takes the College Gameday team in November. Hopefully some different conferences will be thrown into the mix to get some real variety and see some different conferences.
