The fine Florida State could face for the field storming after beating Alabama
The newly-renovated Doak Campbell Stadium played host to a big Florida State-Alabama clash, with the Seminoles getting a shock win.

One of the biggest shocks of the opening weekend of college football action came at Doak Campbell Stadium, where Florida State got a statement victory to kick-start the year.
The Seminoles beat Alabama 31-17, a major shock given their differing performances in 2024. Florida State managed just two wins last season, while the Crimson tide did enough to get a top-ten ranking from AP.
The surprise victory could usher in a new era for Florida State and the home crowd were ecstatic on the final whistle. The packed crowd stormed the field to celebrate the win, actions that could bring a hefty fine for the program.

For years college football organizers have tried to crack down on field invasions, largely on safety grounds. The ACC, Florida State’s conference, actually introduced new, tougher regulations on the matter over the summer.
The rules, announced back in July, dictate that schools must ensure that all players, coaches, officials and team personnel can safety exit the field before fans make it on. Based on video from the game, that did not happen in Saturday’s win.
USA Today reports that the fine for a first-time offender is $50,000. If Florida State is found to have broken the rules again they will be charged $100,000 for a second offense and $200,000 for a third.
Nevertheless, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell was delighted with the atmosphere at the newly-renovated stadium and thanked supporters for their efforts.
“Being back in Doak Campbell full capacity, I mean, we felt it. The marching Chiefs, it was rocking tonight,” Norvell said. “It was incredible. That’s why you do this and why you come to Florida State. It is the people that make the place.”
