Elon Musk has stepped down as head of Twitter and NBC executive Linda Yaccarino has been announced as the replacement. What will she bring to the role?

Two years after being named by Elon Musk to lead X, formally known as Twitter, Linda Yaccarino has announced she will be leaving the social media site.

Elon Musk had tapped Yaccarino shortly after taking over the platform, entrusting her as CEO while he remained a key leader within the company.

In a post on X, she wrote that as soon as she spoke with Musk more than two years ago, she “knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company.”

“I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”

Linda Yaccarino’s career before X

Before joining X, Yaccarino chaired the global advertising and partnerships at NBCUniversal, responsible for this aspect of the company across all of its businesses, including broadcast, cable, digital, and theme parks.

She has been with NBCU for over a decade, holding various leadership positions within the organization. Yaccarino played a major role in launching the company’s ad-supported streaming service, Peacock. Before joining NBCUniversal, Yaccarino held executive roles at Turner Broadcasting and Viacom.
