Most McDonald’s restaurants in the United States are expected to remain open on Thanksgiving, Thursday, 27 November. However, opening hours vary by location, so it is advisable to check with your local restaurant in advance. Other major chains remaining open on Thanksgiving include Krispy Kreme, Starbucks, Whataburger, Wendy’s, Waffle House, IHOP, Burger King, Cracker Barrel, and Dunkin’.

As with McDonald’s, opening hours may differ depending on the branch, so checking in advance is recommended.

Restaurants closing on Thanksgiving 2025

Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, Shake Shack, and The Cheesecake Factory have confirmed nationwide closures for Thanksgiving. Some Subway locations will also close for the holiday. These restaurants are set to resume normal service on Friday, 28 November, Black Friday.

Most Olive Garden locations across the country will also close for Thanksgiving. Both Chili’s and Texas Roadhouse will be shut on Thursday, 27 November.

As Thanksgiving is one of the 11 official federal holidays, government offices are required to close, giving federal employees the day off. Banks, schools, post offices, and the stock exchange will also be closed.
