Why have some people not received their November Social Security Payment yet?
If your Social Security check hasn’t arrived this month, here’s what’s behind the delay – and when you can expect it.

Some Americans have noticed their November Social Security payment hasn’t hit their account yet, even though the first round of deposits was issued on Monday, November 3. While most beneficiaries have already been paid, others are still waiting – and there are clear, factual reasons for it.
Who received payments on November 3?
The Social Security Administration (SSA) began November’s payment cycle with a group of long-term beneficiaries: those who started claiming retirement, disability (SSDI), or survivor benefits before May 1997.
Also included were recipients who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Because this month began on a Saturday, October’s SSI payment was sent early, on Friday, October 31 – causing confusion for some who expected both deposits together this week.
When will my deposit arrive?
If you don’t belong to either of the groups above, your payment date comes later in November – not on November 3.The SSA spreads out benefit disbursements based on the beneficiary’s date of birth, following this fixed schedule:
- Born 1st–10th of the month – paid Wednesday, November 12
- Born 11th–20th – paid Wednesday, November 19
- Born 21st–31st – paid Wednesday, November 26
Additionally, banks and credit unions may take up to three business days to process and post the deposit once it’s released by the SSA. If you rely on a paper check, delivery can take even longer, especially with postal delays or local holidays.

How much money are recipients owed?
According to the SSA, retired workers receive an average of $2,008.31 per month, while disabled workers average $1,582.95, and survivor beneficiaries collect around $1,575.30.
Those on SSI currently receive an average monthly payment of $717.87, though maximum benefits can reach $967 for individuals and $1,450 for eligible couples. Several states also provide supplemental payments, which vary depending on local cost-of-living adjustments.
What is the Cost-of-Living increase in 2026?
The SSA confirmed a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for all beneficiaries starting in January 2026. That means the average retiree’s check will increase by roughly $56 per month, a change designed to offset inflation in the broader economy.

Are payments affected by the current government shutdown?
Despite the ongoing federal government shutdown, which has now stretched beyond a month, the SSA has made clear that Social Security payments will continue on schedule. The agency stated that benefit distributions “will continue with no change in payment dates,” ensuring recipients receive their funds as planned.
What should I do if payment doesn’t arrive as expected?
If your payment still hasn’t arrived three business days after your expected date:
- Contact your bank or credit union to verify processing.
- If the issue isn’t resolved, reach out to your local SSA office to request a payment trace.
Most delays are minor and correct themselves within a few days – but it’s always best to confirm that your direct deposit details or mailing address are up to date in your my Social Security account.
Most November delays stem from the SSA’s staggered schedule, not from administrative issues. Payments are still being distributed in phases – and the vast majority of recipients can expect their funds to arrive on time or within a few days of their scheduled date.
