Update:

U.S. Capitol Police are investigating after an American flag that had been altered to depict a swastika was found in the Capitol Hill office of Rep. Dave Taylor, a Republican congressman from Ohio.

A photo reportedly taken during a Zoom call with Taylor’s staffer, Angelo Elia, shows that red and white stripes had been rearranged to form a swastika, widely recognized as a symbol of the German Nazi Party.

Taylor condemns “vile and deeply inappropriate symbol”

“I am aware of an image that appears to depict a vile and deeply inappropriate symbol near an employee in my office,” Taylor said in a statement. “The content of that image does not reflect the values or standards of this office, my staff, or myself, and I condemn it in the strongest terms. Upon learning of this matter, I immediately directed a thorough investigation alongside Capitol Police, which remains ongoing. No further comment will be provided until it has been completed.”

Taylor’s office described the alteration of the flag as an act of “vandalism.”

Taylor, 55, is a first-term congressman representing Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District, which covers an area east of Cincinnati and south of Columbus. Election and personal life

In 2024, Taylor made his first major move into politics, defeating Democratic nominee Samantha Meadows in the U.S. House of Representatives race for Ohio’s 2nd District, replacing Brad Wenstrup. He was sworn into the 119th U.S. Congress on Jan. 3 of this year.

According to his personal website, Taylor and his wife of 28 years, Charity, live in Clermont County in southern Ohio with their three daughters.
