Estados Unidos Update:

Seeing aurora borealis, better known as the Northern Lights, is a bucket list activity for many Americans. Tonight, you may be able to see the spectacle from your own back yard.

The night of November 11–12 could be one to remember as the aerial wonder illuminates skies across more than a dozen U.S. states. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), two coronal mass ejections (CMEs) from the sun are expected to trigger geomagnetic storm conditions and create a colorful aurora display visible far beyond the Arctic.

Space weather experts forecast that geomagnetic activity could reach G3 levels, meaning solar energy will be strong enough to make auroras visible much farther south than usual. Here’s a look at where you might be able to see the Northern Lights on November 11...

NOAA reports that the largest solar flare of 2025 is headed toward earth, which might further increase the spectacle. The agency could still issue a G4 storm alert for November 11, which could make the Northern Lights even brighter and more widespread.

In total, NOAA’s latest aurora forecast map shows that the phenomenon could be visible - either partially or completely - in 21 U.S. states.

While the forecast looks promising, experts caution that auroras are unpredictable. In some areas, they may appear faint or not at all, while in others, the lights could stretch farther south than expected. Still, millions across the country have a good chance to witness this rare natural show.
