Updated list of countries issuing travel advisories to their citizens about going to the United States
The Trump administration has implemented a number of policies that have countries around the world warning their citizens about traveling to the US.
Donald Trump returned for his second non-consecutive term in the presidency in January. Since then, he and his administration have implemented a rash of new policies that have made international travelers rethink their plans to visit the United States.
It hasn’t helped that several countries around the world have issued advisories to their citizens about travel to the US, including long-time allies. Businesses have already seen a decrease in bookings and travel data show staggering drops in travelers from Canada and Europe.
Countries telling their citizens to beware of travel to the US
While most generally list the US as a safe place to visit, the travel warnings include recommendations about filling out visa and ESTA documentation correctly, citing the Trump executive order stating that there are only two genders, male and female.
There are also advisories that a visa or ESTA does not guarantee entry into the United States as some tourists that have discovered upon arrival at airports and sent packing on the next flight by customs and border officials.
Many are telling their citizens to keep abreast of any potential future changes to entry requirements. One recent change was the ‘visa integrity fee’, a new cover charge of $250 to enter the United States for nonimmigrant visas, such as those for foreign students.
Others like New Zealand have raised concerns about the security risks in the United States. New Zealand was one of the only ones to increase its advisory level telling its citizens to “exercise increased caution” when in America, citing a “higher incidence of violent crime and firearm possession than in New Zealand.”
