That was exactly the case for three young Americans who, during a visit to Spain’s capital, decided to try jamón ibérico for the first time. Jeremy, a content creator with over 2.1 million followers on TikTok, shared the experience on the platform.

“When was the last time you had pork?” the TikToker asks one of his friends, who bluntly admits she’s never tried the culinary treat. Shortly after, the three each grab a slice of jamón ibérico and take a bite.
“That’s not what I was expecting it to taste like”
“That’s not what I was expecting it to taste like,” says one of the girls, who assumed it would be similar to bacon. Based on the video, her reaction is echoed by her two friends, who nod and laugh as Jeremy turns to the shop owner: “I thought it would taste like bacon,” he adds.
The video, which has racked up nearly 50,000 views, 4,000 likes, and around 20 comments in just a few weeks, has drawn attention from users who were quick to comment on the quality of the jamón the group tried: “I don’t think jamón ibérico is supposed to sound like that,” and “Why is it crunchy?” are just some of the reactions found under the post.
