Camille Zapata, Newsom’s digital director, crafted the Trump-style posts that went viral—blending strategy with satire on social media.

This is the social media genius behind Gavin Newsom’s team mocking Donald Trump: Meet Camille Zapata
You may have noticed by now that Gavin Newsom has adopted a new tone on social media, playfully mocking the eccentric style of President Donald Trump, who is known for his distinctive posting voice. The Gavin Newsom account and the Governor Newsom Press Office account hit hard after the huge victory of Proposition 50.

Back in August, after Texas’s Republican-led government moved to redraw Congressional maps in favor of the GOP, Newsom announced plans to call a special election in November—giving California residents the opportunity to redraw maps in the Golden State. That’s when his social media posts began writing in all-caps and mocking the president.
A lot of credit needs to go to that team of social media experts who have found a way to battle Trump on the same level and mocking him while doing so. Newsom and his team came out victorious on Nov. 4 along with many other Democrats.
