If there’s one thing that defines summer – aside from the high temperatures – it’s the sheer number of trips taken across the country by road, rail and air.

How not to lose your bags when traveling

No matter how we travel, our suitcase always comes along, carrying our belongings and personal items. Whether it’s hand luggage or checked baggage, it’s a faithful travel companion. But there’s one crucial detail we often overlook: the color of our suitcase.

This becomes especially relevant when flying. The reason? Most passengers tend to choose the same shades – and very few go for anything bold or distinctive. According to Economic Times, there’s one color in particular that shows up more than any other, and that experts suggest we avoid.

The luggage color to avoid

It’s black – a very common choice for suitcases, but one that can lead to confusion. Expert Jamie Frazer has this advice for anyone traveling with a hard-shell black suitcase: “It’s best to get to the airport early and check your luggage well in advance of your flight.”

But black isn’t the only problematic color. Navy blue and gray are also extremely popular. If your suitcase is one of these common tones, experts recommend labeling it clearly with your personal information.

Low-cost airline Ryanair has even opined on this, with a spokesperson saying: “Make it easier to spot your checked-in luggage on the carousel, especially if your luggage is black, navy or grey. Add a colourful luggage tag or ribbon to the handle so that there’s no confusion on arrival.”

So, to avoid mix-ups at baggage claim – or worse, losing your luggage altogether – the best alternative is to use brightly colored suitcases, eye-catching designs, or an added extra.
