Update:

Cinnamon isn’t just a cozy addition to your morning latte or holiday dessertsit’s one of the most widely used spices in US kitchens, right up there with black pepper and parsley. But beyond its culinary charm, cinnamon might hold a surprising secret: helping reduce belly fat.

A recent study involving 786 participants over a 12-week period found that cinnamon supplements, when paired with a balanced diet, led to measurable improvements in body composition.

On average, participants lost 2.25 pounds, trimmed nearly an inch off their waistlines, lowered their BMI by 0.51 points, and reduced body fat by just over 1%.

More than just flavor

Native to Sri Lanka, cinnamon has been a staple in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. It’s packed with health-promoting properties—antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and even anticancer potential.

But moderation is key: experts recommend no more than one to two teaspoons of ground cinnamon per day, or about one inch of cinnamon stick.

Regulating blood sugar

One of cinnamon’s standout benefits is its ability to help regulate blood sugar. Multiple studies suggest it can improve insulin sensitivity, making it a promising natural ally in managing and potentially preventing type 2 diabetes.

Adding just half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day could positively impact people with elevated blood sugar levels,” says clinical nutritionist Laura Espinosa.
