Millions of Americans took to the streets across the United States for this weekend’s No Kings Day 2.0. protests - the second round of demonstrations “rejecting political idolization” and “reaffirming democratic values”.

What started the frog costume trend?

Many protesters were dressed up as animals for the event - hippos, chickens, eagles, polar bears, elephants... and frogs, lots of frogs.

The frog costume has become a symbol of resistance since one demonstrator wearing a bright green inflatable one was hosed down with chemical spray while protesting outside the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in Portland, Oregon on October 2.

Inside the frog suit was 24-year-old Seth Todd, who explained he wore his bulbous amphibian guise because he didn’t want to be recognized. However, a TikTok video of him getting pepper sprayed by a federal agent went viral, drawing millions of views and likes.
