The destination that 70% of Americans have chosen for their vacations in the next three years: unbeatable cuisine, culture, and natural beauty
This popular destination is the choice for many when it comes to picking a summer holiday.

A recent study commissioned by Turespaña and carried out by MMGY Global shows that Spain is climbing fast on the wish list of American travellers when it comes to choosing a summer destination. According to the survey, seven out of ten U.S. citizens who already have a passport and travel abroad are planning to visit Spain within the next three years, a figure that showcases the country’s growing pull.
The numbers become even more striking when broken down by age and income. Millennials are particularly eager, with more than 80 percent saying Spain is in their sights, while the most affluent travellers also show above-average interest. This combination suggests that not only is demand growing, but the type of visitor Spain attracts is likely to spend generously once they arrive.
Spain’s cities and regions are drawing significant attention. Madrid and Barcelona are the most popular urban destinations, but Valencia, Seville, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria also attract strong interest. Respondents to the survey, which quizzed over 2,000 people, cite Spain’s historic sites, gastronomy, and natural landscapes as primary reasons for visiting.
Safety still tops the list of priorities for Americans, followed closely by weather and cultural opportunities. On average, U.S. respondents plan three international trips over the next two years and expect to allocate more than 13,000 dollars to travel in the coming year alone.
Economic data backs up these trends. In 2024, U.S. visitors made 4.3 million trips to Spain, generating €9 billion in spending, with an average stay of eight days and daily spending of €274.

The research also shows that solo travel is on the rise, especially among women and men, who both choose different styles: women tend to gravitate toward urban and cultural destinations, whereas men balance urban and island appeals.
