Update:

Many retirees on Social Security benefits are to receive their latest monthly payment this week.

On Wednesday, July 9, the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) is due to issue the next round of retirement checks on this month’s distribution schedule.

The SSA is also sending out Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and survivor benefits on Wednesday.

Who’s receiving a Social Security check on Wednesday, July 9?

Of the U.S.’s just under 70 million recipients of retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits, most get their monthly check on one of three Wednesdays each month.

Each beneficiary’s designated Wednesday is decided by their date of birth.

This Wednesday, the SSA is to distribute benefits payments to recipients whose birthday falls between the first and the 10th of each month. This is the first of the SSA’s Wednesday payments for July.

Wednesday payment schedule - July 2025:

  • Weds., July 9: Recipients born on 1st to 10th
  • Weds., July 16: Recipients born on 11th to 20th
  • Weds., July 23: Recipients born on 21st to 31st

Who is paid outside the three-Wednesdays timeline?

  • Certain long-term Social Security recipients

If you started receiving retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits before May 1997, you are typically paid on the third of each month, irrespective of your date of birth.

For these long-term beneficiaries, therefore, the July payment date was Thursday 3rd.

  • SSI beneficiaries

Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) - a separate SSA benefit for low-income individuals who are over 65 or have a disability - are normally sent their check on the first of each month.

As a result, July’s SSI money was scheduled to go out on Tuesday last week.

  • Dual beneficiaries (SSI + regular Social Security)

Just over 2.5 million Americans receive both SSI and one of the SSA’s retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits. These beneficiaries are paid the former on the first of the month and the latter on the third of the month.

Non-Wednesday recipients: July 2025 payments

  • Tues., July 1: SSI recipients
  • Thurs, July 3: Regular Social Sec. recipients since pre-May 1997

If a dual recipient: SSI paid on 1st, regular Social Security paid on 3rd

You can take a look at the SSA’s full payment calendar for 2025 in this online pdf shared by the agency.
