Social Security is issuing checks for $2,000 on average today, Wednesday, July 9: find out who’s getting a payment
Today, the Social Security Administration is due to send out the next batch of benefits payments on the July schedule.

Millions of U.S. senior citizens who receive Social Security retirement benefits are set to get their latest monthly payment.
Today - Wednesday, July 9 - the Social Security Administration (SSA) is due to issue the next batch of checks on this month’s distribution schedule.
Today’s payment run also benefits recipients of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and survivor pay.
Who’s getting a Social Security check today, July 9?
Of the U.S.’s nearly 70 million recipients of retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits, most are sent their monthly check on one of three Wednesdays each month.
Each beneficiary’s designated Wednesday is determined by their date of birth.
Today, the SSA is to distribute benefits payments to recipients whose birthday falls on the first to the 10th of each month. This is the first of the SSA’s Wednesday payments for July.
Wednesday payment schedule - July 2025:
- Weds., July 9: Beneficiaries born on 1st to 10th
- Weds., July 16: Beneficiaries born on 11th to 20th
- Weds., July 23: Beneficiaries born on 21st to 31st
Who is paid outside of the three-Wednesdays timeline?
- Certain long-term Social Security recipients
If you began claiming retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits before May 1997, you are typically paid on the third of each month, regardless of your date of birth.
For these long-term beneficiaries, therefore, the July payment date was Thursday 3rd.
- SSI beneficiaries
Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) - a separate SSA benefit for low-income individuals who are over 65 or have a disability - are normally sent their check on the first of each month.
As a result, July’s SSI money was scheduled to go out on Tuesday last week.
- Dual beneficiaries (SSI + regular Social Security)
Just over 2.5 million Americans receive both SSI and one of the SSA’s retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits. These beneficiaries are paid the former on the first of the month and the latter on the third of the month.
Non-Wednesday recipients: July 2025 payments
- Tues., July 1: SSI recipients
- Thurs, July 3: Regular Social Sec. recipients since pre-May 1997
If a dual recipient: SSI paid on 1st, regular Social Security paid on 3rd
