Results and winners in the 2025 Election: California Proposition 50, New York City’s mayor, Virginia, New Jersey…

Joseph McMahon
Born in Chicago, Joe played varsity football and baseball in Bowling Green, Ohio for BGHS and later played lacrosse at BGSU. A year abroad in Spain changed everything. As destiny would have it he ended up living in Zaragoza, running his own business, teaching Journalism at a private university then working as a SEO journalist for Diario AS.
Update:

The big winner was the city of New York. Zohran Mamdani is the new NYC mayor after beating Andrew Cuomo with over 50 percent of the vote. It’s a historical win considering Mamdani was born in Uganda, is only 34 years old, is Muslim and is considered very far left inside the Democratic Party.

California Proposition 50

The other huge victory for the Democrats was in California where Gavin Newsom convinced Californians to back his plan to redraw the voting districts in the state to compete with Texas and other Republican led states that have tried to find advantage through gerrymandering. The victory was a huge slap in the face to Trump and his MAGA supporters who are definitely questioning their loyalty as the Trump ship is beginning to sink with the mid term elections only a year away.

Virginia governor

Abigail Spanberger will be the first woman governor of Virginia. The former congresswoman, who also previously worked as a C.I.A. officer, clearly beat her Republican rival, a talk-show host named John Reid with nearly 58 percent of the vote.

New Jersey governor

Democrat Mikie Sherrill won in the New Jersey race for governor, where Trump endorsed the Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli. The Trump curse was too much for Ciattarelli to overcome and Sherrill rode the wave of discontent with the Trump Administration. The former U.S. Navy helicopter pilot won with the election with over 56 percent of the vote.

Cincinnati mayor

Maybe not as important as the elections mentioned above, but just as humiliating or even more for the MAGA followers, was Aftab Pureval huge win for Cincinnati mayor over Vice President JD Vance’s half-brother. The Democrat candidate of Indian origin beat Cory Bowman with 78 percent of the vote.
