Update:

Elon Musk has become the world’s richest man thanks to the wild success of Tesla and if he meets the targets stipulated in his latest contract, it could make him the world’s first trillionaire. The electric vehicle manufacturer’s shareholders gave the green light recently to an unprecedented compensation plan that could be worth almost $1 trillion.

In order to see that money though he will have to deliver 20 million vehicles, 10 million Full Self-Driving subscriptions, and one million Optimus robots. The ambitious goals also include launching robotaxi fleets, expanding artificial intelligence products, and raising the company’s market cap to $8.5 trillion.

However, if he is able to achieve those lofty goals to get the mega bonus, what would that kind of money buy him?

What Elon Musk’s Tesla trillion-dollar payday can buy

It seems almost unfathomable the amount of money that the tech billionaire will have at his disposal if he meets the terms of his new contract but here’s a rundown of what $1 trillion looks like and some of the things that he could buy.

  • 3,636 times Cristiano Ronaldo’s income: The Portuguese soccer superstar made $275 million over the last year from his on the field job and various business adventures according to Forbes.
  • 10,001,000 Model X Plaid SUVs or Cybertruck Cyberbeasts: Currently, Tesla’s most expensive models, which both have a starting price of about $99,990. Maybe he might want to wait until the 2026 Tesla Roadster, which will cost $200,000, comes out and have 5 million of them.
  • Launch 10,000 Starships or more: Musk wants to take humans to Mars with his Starship, which is still in development. Currently each launch costs around $100 million, but the tech billionaire predicts it could come down to $10 million in a few years. At the lower price he could put 100,000 of them into space.
  • 333 Starbases: To launch all those rockets he may need another space base for his operations. His Starbase in Texas only set him back $3 billion.
  • 1,111 luxury skyscrapers: The tallest residential skyscraper, Tiger Sky Tower, is currently under construction in Dubai and will cost $900 million to build.
  • Almost 2 Alaskas: While the United States purchased The Last Frontier from Russia for a song, just $7.2 million in 1867, its current value is estimated to be around $500 billion.
  • Finance New York City for 8.62 years: The Big Apple’s 2026 budget is $116 billion. While highly unlikely that Musk would want to fund the new mayor’s programs, his payday would keep the city running for nearly nine years.
