Photographer goes out to capture the beauty of nature, finds a bald eagle and the final photo is totally unexpected: “It’s not something you see every day”

Animals are adapting as human settlements expand ever more into their habitats changing how they behave and where they find their food. Still, nature photographer Doug Gemmel was a bit taken aback by what he saw in some pictures that he captured of a juvenile bald eagle.

Instead of carrying away its typical prey, it had found something that puts up much less of a fight, a slice of pepperoni pizza.

America’s bird loves typical American dish

The South Windsor, Connecticut resident was at the nearby Wethersfield Cove one morning trying to capture eagles swooping down on the lake to hunt fish. However, this particular eagle flew down to get something from a parking lot behind where he was standing, he explained in a Facebook post.

Because he was lower than the parking lot and there was a snowbank as well, he couldn’t see what the eagle had gone after. However, he managed to get some shots of the bird as it flew away being harassed by four crows.

When Gemmel got home and “zoomed in a lot” on the eagle’s talons, he could clearly see that the bird had made off with a piece of pepperoni pizza. “It’s not something you see every day, that’s for sure,” he remarked with a laugh.

“The real joy of this whole thing is seeing something I’ve never seen before,” Gemmel told a local radio station. “It’s America’s bird, and it likes pizza,” he added.
