Kebab restaurant poisons 900+ people, blames their stomachs: “My recipe has a special taste”
Luckily, no fatalities were reported, but nearly a thousand people sought medical attention.

What happened at a kebab restaurant in Turkey is the kind of incident critics of the country’s most famous dish are quick to seize on. Roughly 950 people fell ill after eating spoiled chicken at a restaurant in the Korfez district.
The mass food poisoning occurred during the final days of Ramadan. Hundreds of customers dined at the establishment and soon began to feel unwell. It didn’t take long for health officials to identify the common link among the cases: the food served at the restaurant.
The owners were arrested, and the place was shut down by authorities. One of the owners, who also works as the cook, defended his recipe in front of the media:“We served kebabs to about 2,000 people over two days. We don’t know what caused the incidents. If the chicken had been spoiled, we would’ve noticed while cooking.”
The second owner went even further, blaming the customers for their symptoms:“Maybe they got sick from eating too many kebabs. Maybe their bodies just couldn’t handle it. We follow hygiene rules, and my recipe has had a special flavor for years. We would never play with anyone’s health,” he claimed.
Fortunately, none of the patients died, although there were a few more serious cases.“Many patients went to hospitals as a precaution, but there were no critical cases,” said Istanbul Health Director Yuksel Pechlevan.
The case has sparked renewed concern among authorities about meat storage practices in restaurants like this one.
