If you let your dog sleep with you in bed, veterinarians say you should consider these tips
At one point or another, most dog owners have shared the bed with their pet.

Admit it, you’ve shared your bed with your dog. Making room in your bed for your furry friend can feel heartwarming and intimate, but there’s more to the decision than infinite snuggles. Deciding whether your dog should sleep with you involves taking into account many things, including their behaviour, health, and your own needs.
When it’s okay to invite them into bed
Before letting your doggo climb in, make sure they’ve matured, both mentally and physically. They should already be well trained and able to behave calmly overnight without demands for attention. Also keep in mind that providing a comfy bed of their own gives them the option to sleep elsewhere and feel secure even before being allowed up.

For both people and dogs, physical closeness stimulates oxytocin, which can calm stress. Some owners also report sleeping better or feeling safer when their pet is nearby. The emotional bond strengthened this way isn’t just comforting; it can have positive effects on mental well-being.
Make sure to remember that dogs don’t sleep the same way humans do. They tend to stay alert even while resting, and may react loudly to noises or movements.
Health risks are also part of the equation. Pets can carry fleas, ticks, or internal parasites. For people with allergies, young children, elderly adults, or anyone with a weakened immune system, these risks should be taken seriously. Even with regular grooming and veterinary care, there’s always some chance of transmission or irritation.

Having said that, nothing beats your dog falling asleep next to you and feeling comfortable enough to be off-guard in your presence. As long as you’re smart and know their personality and boundaries, getting you pooch to jump up on the bed is always a welcome part of the day.
