How do I check if my airport is affected by the FAA flight reductions?
Here’s all you need to know about flight cancellations due to Trump’s government shutdown.

FAA chief Bryan Bedford had the politeness to call the government shutdown “unusual”. Of course, he is a top official in a position of significant power.
I, however, am not. It is a disgrace to the people that Donald Trump’s shutdown, entirely imposed by his reckless attitude during his second term in the now-partially-destroyed White House that has caused 13,000 air traffic controllers and 50,000 Transportation Security Administration agents to go unpaid for a month, something which has now led to the threat of 10% of all flights across America to be cancelled.
How many flights will be cut?
According to Reuters, citing four unnamed sources, the flight cuts will be introduced gradually: 4 percent of domestic flights will be reduced on Friday, increasing to 5 percent on Saturday and 6 percent on Sunday, before reaching a total reduction of 10 percent next week.
That was before U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on Wednesday that he would order a 10% cut in flights at 40 major U.S. airports.

How to check if your airport is affected:
Although the government did not specify which 40 airports would be affected, the reductions are expected to impact the 30 busiest hubs, including those serving New York City, Washington D.C., Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Dallas. Data from aviation analytics firm Cirium suggests this could result in up to 1,800 cancelled flights and a loss of more than 268,000 airline seats.
“We’re in new territory”
“When we see pressures building in these 40 markets, we just can’t ignore it,” Bedford said at a hastily put-together press conference. “We can take action today to prevent things from deteriorating so the system is extremely safe today, will be extremely safe tomorrow.”
“I’m not aware in my 35-year history in the aviation market where we’ve had a situation where we’re taking these kinds of measures,” Bedford said Wednesday. “We’re in new territory in terms of government shutdowns.”
