Honda recall 406,000 vehicles due to accident risk: full list of affected models

Honda has issued a major recall affecting more than 406,000 cars due to a defect that could cause wheels to detach while driving, increasing the risk of crashes or injuries.

The recall affects Honda Civic models only, and was announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) this week. With this news, Honda joins fellow automakers Toyota, Ford and Hyundai in issuing wide-scale recalls.

According to the NHTSA, the recall involves 2016–2021 Honda Civic models with 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels. A manufacturing flaw could cause the wheels to loosen or separate from the vehicle while in motion.

“Wheel detachment could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of an accident or injury,” the agency said in its official notice.

Which Honda models are affected?

The recall applies to Civic models manufactured between 2016 and 2021. Starting December 8, 2025, Honda will notify affected owners by mail to schedule a free inspection at authorized dealerships. Dealers will examine the wheels and replace hubs or rims if necessary, at no cost to the owner.

Not all Civics from those years are affected, so owners are urged to verify whether their vehicle is part of the recall. To check, visit the official NHTSA recall website and enter your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You can find the VIN on the driver’s side dashboard near the base of the windshield.
