Honda decides to cease production of its Acura ZDX model as EV market continues to weaken
The Japanese car company has stopped the production of one of its electric vehicles amid problems in the market.

Honda has confirmed it will stop producing the Acura ZDX, its popular electric crossover. While the reason given behind the unforeseen turn in direction shifting market dynamics, the reality is much darker...
In a statement, Honda explained the move was made “to better align our product portfolio with the needs of our customers and market conditions, as well as our long-term strategic goals".
The decision means any planned 2026 ZDX models have been cancelled and dealers have been informed. A Honda spokeswoman said that “ZDX has played a valuable role for the Acura brand, and will provide a foundation we will build on next year with the arrival of the all-electric Acura RSX, which will be produced at the EV Hub in Ohio in the second half of 2026, as well as with hybrid-electric Acura models now in development.”

Why did Honda cancel such a popular car?
Despite Honda’s diplomatic statement, in the first half of 2025, the Acura moved just over 10,000 units, making up around 15 percent of its U.S. sales — a huge portion.
As usual, Donald Trump has been caught — blue handed? — in the middle of this mess: the biggest blow to the car’s future came when his reckless administration moved to phase out the $7,500 federal EV tax credit. That incentive had been crucial in keeping electric cars within reach for middle-class buyers. Its removal simply benefits oil producers and petrol-powered vehicles, while leaving car companies now scrambling to justify investments in green technology that is receiving no help at all.
Let’s be clear: the ZDX wasn’t cancelled due to sales but the fact that the political and economic ecosystem surrounding EVs was deliberately undermined by a climate change denier.

The ZDX will likely be remembered not just as a niche Acura model that people liked and enjoyed, but as a casualty of an era where short-sighted politics trumped long-term progress.
