Update:

Ford Motor Company is racking up its push for workers to return to the office, putting in place a strict policy that threatens firing employees for not complying.

This move has, as you might imagine, significant unrest among the workforce, particularly among those who had embraced remote work that began during the pandemic.

In June 2025, Ford announced that most salaried workers would be required to work from the office four days a week as of September. The company said that this change aimed to increase its transformation into a more dynamic organisation (whatever that means). However, the policy has faced backlash, with employees expressing concerns about work-life balance and the sudden shift away from flexible arrangements in their daily lives.

Ford’s messages threatened ”termination”

Employees told Business Insider that some people received automated emails warning them of potential termination if they do not improve their office attendance. These messages come despite said employees complying with updated attendance policies and having previous work-from-home arrangements agreed upon by their managers, according to the report. They said that the messages threatened “discipline up to and including termination.”

Another employee told the outlet that they felt “tired and exhausted,” adding that “I just want to do my job and help the company, but upper management is constantly making that harder to do, and then telling me I’m the problem,” they said.

We have done everything we can to make sure our employees understand the in-office policy, and we have given everyone time to adjust their schedules and work with their managers to make sure they are in compliance,” a Ford spokesperson told told the outlet. Human resources director Homer Isaac added that the emails were designed to instigate a “change of behaviour” around remote working.
