Elon Musk’s biggest competitor is preparing to launch in the country most friendly to the Starlink owner: “It can make a difference.”
Gallus Communications launches an emergency satellite network in Argentina without terrestrial infrastructure, challenging Starlink's dominance in the region.

The satellite market is highly selective, with only a few companies able to break into it and make a significant impact. A common point of reference in this industry is Starlink, SpaceX’s flagship project designed to dominate satellite telecommunications. Despite being one of Elon Musk’s key ventures, it is currently losing some of its prominence.
Gallus Communications, one of Starlink’s biggest global competitors, has announced its arrival in Argentina. And it’s doing so with a proposal that could change the game: a mobile satellite network for emergencies that works without the need for terrestrial infrastructure.
Its arrival occurs in the same region where Starlink dominates the satellite internet market and where Elon Musk has received favorable political and commercial support in Latin America. This initiative, developed in partnership with the Argentine company Servicio Satelital S.A., is the first of its kind in the country. It is designed to operate in critical situations such as natural disasters, widespread blackouts, or remote areas lacking connectivity, according to iProfesional.
The network, which operates with low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites and Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) technology, enables real-time voice, video, messaging, and geolocation communication—even without access to electricity or conventional infrastructure. Its portable and modular design makes it a key tool for security forces, emergency services, energy companies, and humanitarian organizations.

From its regional headquarters in Miami, as described by iProfesional, Gallus Communications explained that the reason for this innovative introduction is the desire to “fill critical gaps” where traditional infrastructure fails. “Our Mobile Network offers operational reliability and transforms tactical response into coordinated intelligence,” they stated.
This launch takes place amid intense competition in the satellite internet market in the Río de la Plata region. While Starlink currently leads, new entrants such as Orbith, INSAT, and Amazon, with its Project Kuiper, are also vying for a share of the market.
According to the source, the agreement between Gallus and Servicio Satelital includes not only training and technical support but also plans for expansion into other Latin American countries, suggesting a strategy for regional growth in the satellite sector.
In a country where Elon Musk has received considerable support for his space endeavors, one of his main global competitors has now established its presence with a proposal that promises to transform communication, even in the most challenging situations.
