Back by popular demand: Diet Coke’s cult classic flavor is making a limited comeback
This fan-favourite Coke flavour is returning to shelves.
Classic flavours have a way of sneaking back onto shelves when fans clamour for them, and that’s exactly what’s happening now with Diet Coke Lime. After years in retirement, the citrus soda is officially returning to U.S. stores, joining the growing trend of consumer nostalgia up and down the aisles.
Launched originally in 2004, Diet Coke Lime had a solid run before being phased out in many markets. Now, parent company Coca-Cola confirmed that the lime-tinged version will reappear later this month in a handful of states, with plans to ramp up availability nationwide early next year.
“Consumer demand for nostalgic favourites has never been stronger, and Diet Coke is listening,” the news release from the company said. “The runaway success of Retro Diet Cherry Coke, which launched for a limited time earlier this year, proved just how much appetite there is for throwback flavours that connect people to cultural moments and personal memories.”
The comeback is no accident. In recent years, beverage brands have dipped into the retro market; whether it’s old flavours, legacy packaging, or regional favourites, these moves inevitably spark excitement among buyers.

The reintroduction will start in select markets before expanding broadly. Coca-Cola hasn’t confirmed that it will be rolled out in every state yet, but expects to bring back Diet Coke Lime as a permanent fixture rather than a fleeting novelty.
