Sydney Sweeney and Zendaya bitter feud explained: Why the two actresses are avoiding each other
The “Euphoria” co-stars’ once-close friendship has reportedly fractured over clashing beliefs and a backlash to Sweeney’s viral ad campaign.

Sydney Sweeney and Zendaya have become two of Hollywood’s biggest stars in recent years, partly thanks to their acclaimed performances together in “Euphoria.” It appears, however, that the duo aren’t exactly seeing eye to eye on the teen drama’s set.
The co-stars struck up a close friendship after joining the cast in 2019, but they are now reportedly locked in a “bitter feud,” an insider told the Daily Mail. The source claims the tension stems from their opposing political beliefs.

Political differences fuel Sweeney-Zendaya tension
Zendaya has long been a public advocate for voting and appeared in a 2020 campaign with Michelle Obama encouraging Americans to head to the polls. Sweeney, meanwhile, starred in a controversial American Eagle ad earlier this year, which reportedly did not sit well with her co-star.
The ad’s tagline, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,” a pun on “great genes,” featured a blonde-haired, blue-eyed white woman and was criticized on social media for promoting eugenics and white supremacy. Sweeney addressed the backlash with characteristic calm: “I’m way more aware about things than people think. The ad spoke for itself. I did a jean ad. The reaction was a surprise.”
Sweeney has never publicly disclosed her political leanings, though public records indicate she is a registered Republican.
Red carpet drama ahead of season 3
The same insider claims Zendaya is now refusing to appear alongside Sweeney to promote the upcoming third season of “Euphoria.” “It’s no wonder she’s refusing to do it. It’s a difficult position for Zendaya to be in because if she even stands next to Sydney on the red carpet, it can be read as her excusing Sydney’s views on Trump and her refusal to apologize for the racist ad,” the source said.
For now, fans will have to wait and see how well the pair have been able to put their reported differences aside when “Euphoria” finally returns for its long-awaited third season.
