Update:

Oscar Isaac has revealed he is prepared to reprise the role of Poe Dameron in a future “Star Wars” movie, but only if Disney meets a major condition.

The 46-year-old became a global superstar and one of the most respected actors of his generation thanks to his portrayal of the X-wing fighter pilot in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, released between 2015 and 2019.

Disney takes control of “Star Wars”

That trilogy followed the 2012 sale of George Lucas’ production company, Lucasfilm, to Disney. The deal handed control of the iconic franchise to the entertainment giant and marked a new era for “Star Wars.”

Now, Isaac says his future as Poe Dameron rests entirely in Disney’s hands, and depends on how the company handles the fallout from its recent controversy involving late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.

Isaac slams Disney over Kimmel controversy

Disney-owned ABC suspended “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” for a week after Kimmel made remarks about the shocking death of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk. The suspension sparked major backlash, with critics accusing Disney and ABC of bowing to political pressure from the Trump administration, which Kimmel had often mocked, and suppressing free speech.

Speaking to GQ two days after the suspension was announced, Isaac slammed Disney and said he would only consider returning to the “Star Wars” universe under one condition.

“I mean, I’d be open to it, although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney. But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great… if that happens, then yeah, I’d be open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away. Or any number of other things.”

Breaking barriers in Hollywood

Isaac was born in Guatemala to a Guatemalan mother and a Cuban father before moving to the United States when he was only five months old. He became an American citizen in 2006 and has been widely praised for breaking Latino stereotypes in Hollywood by taking on diverse, complex roles, including that of Poe Dameron in “Star Wars.”
