Estados Unidos Update:

Bad Bunny is arguably one of the current most important artists in the Latino music scene, with his success leading to to the 31-year-old being selected to perform at the prestigious Super Bowl LX Halftime Show in February next year.

However, his presence at Levi’s Stadium next February has generated mixed opinions, even from the President of the United States, Donald Trump. “I’ve never heard of him. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing this. It’s crazy. And then they blame some promoter they hired to select the entertainment. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous,” the president stated.

Despite the criticism, Bad Bunny will enter the Super Bowl history books and join the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince, U2, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen or Lady Gaga, celebrated artists who have performed at the seminal halftime show.

Country fans appeal for Strait

However, some music fans have taken the issue into their own hands with a Change.org petition circulating demanding that the event organisers dump Bad Bunny from performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show and propose having George Strait perform instead.

Strait is a country music legend, whom they refer to as the “King of Country” and, more importantly, a symbol of American music.

“The 2026 Super Bowl offers a unique opportunity to pay tribute to the rich heritage of American music by featuring George Strait in its halftime show. His performances are known for their authenticity and raw emotion, qualities that are crucial when trying to unite fans from coast to coast,” reads the petition, which by Monday of this week had already surpassed 100,000 signatures calling for the Puerto Rican singer’s removal.

“The show should maintain a family-friendly atmosphere, avoid politicizing entertainment, and celebrate American musical traditions,” argues user Kar Shell, who spearheaded the petition, also clarifying that, according to calculations, 78% of Americans only speak English, so Bad Bunny and his Latin presence, according to their standpoint, is not the most suitable.

Although the reality is that, it is practically impossible that this petition, despite exceeding 100,000 signatures, will be considered by the NFL, Bad Bunny’s presence at the next Super Bowl will have more intrigue to see how he handles it and the show he delivers, although his more than 80 million monthly listeners, just on Spotify and his successful global tours, support him.
