Update:

For Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, acting is a way of expressing herself but the 35-year-old also enjoys engaging with total strangers on social media as she revealed in an interview with Fandango this week.

“I wasn’t trashing the Royal Family”

Lawrence revealed that she goes incognito on TikTok just to get involved in discussions in the comments section. She made the secret confession to Die, My Love co-star Robert Pattinson, who was intrigued by her social media mischief.

Jennifer started out by asking Robert if he has “a secret fandom that most people don’t know about”, then revealed her own secret.

I have a secret. I have, like, a secret life on TikTok!” she began.

“You do?” inquired Pattinson. “With it’s own fans?”

“Well, I wouldn’t say fans... I get in fights on TikTok,” the American Hustle actress told her bemused co-star. “I get in fights in the comments section - and one girl was like, ‘How old are you? Get a life!

“It started off with Real Housewives, which was kinda like fight, back and forth, the Kardashians, that kind of thing. And then it got really intense when I started commenting on the Royal Family.” she continued. “A lot of people just did not know that the Mountbattens, that Queen Elizabeth II is married to her first cousin, [Prince Philip Mountbatten]. It just is, that’s a fact—they are cousins.”

The royal family remark sparked a backlash, with some users pointing out that Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were distant cousins - third cousins. They share the same great-grandparents, (Queen Victoria and Prince Albert).

People were thinking that I was like trashing them and I’m like, I’m not! That’s just a fact. And it was also in the 40s, it was normal. Anyway that kinda started this whole... I guess I rage-bait while on TikTok! I’m like Kendra [Licari] from the cat-fishing mom”.

Lawrence and Pattinson star alongside Sissy Spacek, LaKeith Stanfield, Nick Nolte and Gabrielle Rose in Die, My Love - Lynne Ramsay’s first full feature film in seven years, a tale of twisted love, isolation and mental meltdown. The movie, which had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May went on theatrical release on November 7.
