Update:

Channing Tatum has become one of Hollywood’s best-known stars thanks to roles in films ranging from his early breakout appearances in “She’s the Man” and “Step Up” to leading the “Magic Mike” trilogy. But one of his most talked-about performances came in the 2022 action-comedy The Lost City, where a jungle scene left a lasting impression on audiences and crew alike.

A leech-filled jungle mishap

In the movie, chaos breaks out when Alan Caprison, played by Tatum, ends up covered in leeches after getting lost in the jungle with Loretta Sage, portrayed by Sandra Bullock. Unfortunately for him, several leeches attached themselves to a particularly sensitive area, forcing the actor to reveal more of himself than expected, front and back.

To make things even more uncomfortable, the sequence was filmed on just the second day of production. That meant many of the crew were introduced to Tatum’s private parts before even getting a proper introduction to him.

Tatum cracks up on set

During a recent appearance on “Hot Ones,” the YouTube series where celebrities answer questions while eating spicy chicken wings, the 45-year-old actor admitted the scene had to be filmed multiple times because he kept breaking character. The line that set him off: “They’re sucking on my butt like a Jamba juice.”

“The second day, on set, you have to walk onto the set and you have to be like, ‘Hello everyone, my name’s Chan. I know we’ve only really had one more day to get to know each other,’” Tatum recalled.

“‘So you’re going to see my dick today. We’re going to get to know each other very well. This is my dick. My name’s Chan. I’ll get to know your names later.’”

Bullock’s surreal monologue

As part of the sequence, Bullock’s character had to perform a two-page monologue directly addressing Tatum’s exposed body, with a sock covering his penis. The actor described the surreal experience as being like a “fever dream.”

“I knew Sandy, we have kids the same age, they went to the same preschool and what not. But Sandy having to have a whole monologue, that was the weirder thing, more than her having to pick leeches off my butt,” he said.

It’s safe to say “The Lost City” gave audience, the cast and even Tatum himself more than they bargained for.
