Actress Ruby Rose doesn’t hold back on Sydney Sweeney: “You’re a cretin and you ruined the film. Period. Christy deserved better”
Rose publicly slammed Sweeney over the failure of Christy, accusing her of “ruining” the film and misrepresenting the boxer.

Since last summer, Sydney Sweeney has been making headlines for all sorts of reasons. Beyond the controversy surrounding her recent jeans ad, the actress is once again in the spotlight – this time for the spectacular failure of her new film Christy. But it was her comments about the box-office disaster that really set off another storm, angering a fellow actor.
Ruby Rose, best known for her role in Orange Is the New Black, lashed out at Sweeney on social media after hearing her remarks. Sweeney had defended her work, saying: “we don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact. and Christy has been the most impactful project of my life.”

Ruby Rose says Sydney Sweeney “ruined” Christy
The Australian actor accused Sweeney and her team of having “wrecked” the biopic about boxer Christy Martin. On Threads, Rose wrote: “The original Christy Martin script was incredible. Life-changing. I was attached to play Cherry… Everyone had experience with the core material. Most of us were actually gay. It’s part of why I stayed in acting. Losing roles happens all the time.”
She then turned her ire directly at Sweeney and her PR team:“For her PR… talk[ing] about it flopping and saying SS did it for the ‘people.’ None of ‘the people’ want to see someone who hates them, parading around pretending to be us. You’re a cretin and you ruined the film. Period. Christy deserved better.”
Rose’s comments quickly ignited debate online. Some users applauded her candour, while others rushed to Sweeney’s defence, saying her goal was to highlight Martin’s story and the domestic abuse she endured. Meanwhile, Christy remains in over 2,000 U.S. theatres but continues to post dismal box-office numbers.
